COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy is designed to reflect the role of individuals employed as beauty therapists to provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products. These individuals work relatively autonomously, and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent; 

AND ONE OF BELLOW ENGLISH EVIDENCE:​

  • Academic IELTS 5.5 overall, no less than 5.0 in each band,

OR

  • Upper intermediate or EAP from approved ELICOS/ESL centre

OR

  • Evidence of successful completion of a VET course at Certificate IV or above level in Australia.

COURSE DELIVERY

​The course is 4 terms for 36 weeks. The course is planned and timetabled for 20 hours per week. You attend the course 2.5 hours per week. Students are booked into our clinic according to our roster, which is outside your timetabled class times. Clinic hours generally fit into this timetable but additional booked hours may be necessary as the course progresses.

Classroom learning - There is 16 hours (2 days) face-to-face learning in the classroom per week. Classroom learning includes lectures supported by presentations plus visual topic content, with practice time and group and oral work. Your materials are provided either in print or digital copy that can be accessed as part of the course. There is an extra cost for the textbook, please refer to the fees table.

Tutorial learning - There is 4 hours (a 1/2 day) face-to-face learning in the tutorial per week.

Practicum - You complete beauty treatments with clients under supervision at college in the practice rooms. You will receive the support of the trainer and the co-ordinator to ensure this is a planned and rewarding experience.

START DATES

ASSESSMENTS

Students are required to complete a range of tasks as part of the assessment requirements for each unit. To perform at your best, you will need to work on the assessments outside of class time. Assessments methods may include:

  • Practical demonstrations where you will be observed by one of our assessors in the simulated beauty salon environment

  • Knowledge based test which contain written short answer questions

  • Projects for you to investigate and complete in your own time.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT TRANSFER 

AMBI recognises certificates and statement of attainment issued by other registered training organisation and the skills and knowledge that students may have gained through any previous studies and at workplace and life experiences. RPL and credit transfer can be applied at the time of enrolment or during orientation. A fee is payable for assessing your RPL status. This may affect the international student visa and shorten your course duration.  

COURSE COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of all the required units of this course, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification in SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. Students who do not complete all required units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of a SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy.

PATHWAYS

Beauty Therapy graduates can move on to further study at AMBI to the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

COLLEGE LOCATION AND FACILITIES

Th Australian Massage and Beauty Institute is located at 86 Keppel St, Bathurst NSW 2795 Australia. Our facilities include classrooms, practical rooms, student clinic, printing and photocopying facility and a student common area. The college is Wi-Fi enabled and students can bring their own laptop computer or mobile device. Students wear the college uniform which is black trousers, black closed shoes and the AMBI T-shirt. All tables, products and related equipment are supplied by the college and supplied for the practicum.
