National Qualification Code: SHB50121 

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy is designed to reflect the role of individuals employed as beauty therapists to provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products. These individuals work relatively autonomously, and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques.

Duration

The course duration is 12 months: 4 terms; 9 weeks per term

Start Date

​The Diploma of Beauty Therapy has a rolling intake so you can begin their study as soon as possible. You will complete the introductory unit SHBBINF002 Maintain infection control standards and then complete the remainder of the units according to the timetable to successfully complete the remaining units for the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

Course Delivery 

​The course is offered as a blended course with face-to-face, online learning and simulated work environment practice.

​

Classroom Learning includes lectures supported with visual topic content, PowerPoints, practice, group and oral work. Your materials are provided either in print or digital copy that can be accessed as part of the course.

​

​Online Learning requires you to complete additional online study each week. This learning is tailored to the follow the units you are completing in class. This includes reading topics, research and additional materials.

​

​Simulated Work Environment

Over the duration of the course, students will complete a range of beauty services to demonstrate skills and knowledge of the course.

Assessment 

Students are required to complete a range of tasks as part of the assessment requirements for each unit. To perform at your best, you will probably need to work on the assessments outside of class time. Assessments methods may include:

  • Practical demonstrations where you will be observed by one of our assessors in the simulated beauty salon environment 

  • Knowledge based tests which contain written short answer questions

  • Projects for you to investigate and complete in your own time

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer 

AMBI recognises certificates and statement of attainment issued by other registered training organisation and the skills and knowledge that students may have gained through any previous studies and at workplace and life experiences. RPL and credit transfer can be applied for at the time of enrolment or during orientation. A fee is payable for assessing your RPL status

 

Course Completion

Upon successful completion of all the required units of this course, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification in SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy. Students who do not complete all required units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of a SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

Pathways

Massage Therapy graduates can move on to further study at AMBI to the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
