COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Diploma of Remedial Massage is designed for people wanting to specialise in remedial massage as a highly trained therapist who may be working with allied health professionals. Remedial massage therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service or clinical setting workin with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance, or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). This course is a blend of theory and hands-on practice in specialised remedial massage treatments in a clinical environment. The clinical practice will provide a solid foundation for employment in remedial massage services.

COURSE DELIVERY

The course is 4 terms for 36 weeks. The course is planned and timetabled for 20 hours per week. You attend the course 2.5 hours per week. Students are booked into our clinic according to our roster, which is outside your timetabled class times. Clinic hours generally fit into this timetable but additional booked hours may be necessary as the course progresses.

Classroom learning – There is 16 hours (2 days) face-to-face learning in the classroom per week. Classroom learning includes lectures supported by presentations plus visual topic content, with practice time and group and oral work. Your materials are provided either in print or digital copy that can be accessed as part of the course. There is an extra cost for the textbook, please refer to the fees table.

Tutorial learning – There is 4 hours (a 1/2 day) face-to-face learning in the tutorial per week.

CLINIC PRACTICUM

Under the supervision of a qualified trainer, you will provide massage treatments for a range of clients. From Term 3 to Term 8, you complete client treatments. These clinical practicums with clients are arranged in a booking system that is co-ordinated by college staff and operated by students as part of the course. This is a very valuable experience for students preparing for employment. By your second year of study and clinic, remedial massage students are still learning techniques but are expected to be providing client services at a “work ready” standard.

ASSESSMENTS

Students are required to complete a range of tasks as part of the assessment requirements for each unit. To perform at your best, you will need to work on the assessments outside of class time. Assessments methods may include:

  • Practical demonstrations where you will be observed by one of our assessors in the simulated environment and in your work placement
  • Knowledge based test which contain written short answer questions
  • Projects for you to investigate and complete in your own time.
  • Logbook from work placement signed by your supervisor

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT TRANSFER

AMBI recognises certificates and statement of attainment issued by other registered training organisation and the skills and knowledge that students may have gained through any previous studies and at workplace and life experiences. RPL and credit transfer can be applied for at the time of enrolment or during orientation.

COURSE COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of all the required units of this course, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification in HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage. Students who do not complete all required units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of a HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and/or HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage.

PATHWAYS

Remedial Massage graduates could move on to further study at university level.
